The 5Whys
The 5 Whys is a problem solving
technique used to get the root cause analysis. The 5Whys can be used in all
business process to find the root cause of a certain problem.
The 5Whys can be used in six sigma methodology (DMAIC), also it is used to identify different wastes in lean approach.
Purpose of 5Whys
The purpose of 5Whys is to search deeply to solve the problem; additionally, engaging people in process improvement to search for more development opportunities. The 5Whys can be used individually or as a part of Fishbone diagram.
How to perform 5Whys?
- Identify the problem.
- Ask a question, why the problem happened?
- Concerning the result, ask the same question again?
- Keep asking the same question till the root cause is reached.
- Discuss the results and take the necessary actions.
